Our wall art comes from "a working art studio in Chikodi, Karnataka", whose artists, in the studio's words, "hand-paint original textured wall art, sold directly to homes across India."
Built in layers
Each canvas is built up in layers with a palette knife. That gives it a raised, sculpted surface, and the texture changes as daylight moves across the room. The studio is clear on two points that matter if you are buying art rather than decoration. Each piece is "signed on the back by the person who painted it", and "we never print our own work."
Pieces to look at
- Fern Row: the largest piece in the edit, with raised leaves across a long canvas.
- Coastline: sea foam meeting sand, in heavy relief.
- Ember: warm earth tones in a linear composition.
- White Purity and Rare: quieter, single-colour pieces where the texture does the work.
Hanging textured art
Textured canvases look best lit from the side, which throws the ridges into relief. A picture light, or a window at an angle, does more than a spotlight shining straight down. Hang the centre of the canvas at about eye level. Above a sofa or console, leave a hand's width or two of wall between the furniture and the frame.
Several pieces come in more than one size. Each listing shows its sizes, dispatch time and returns terms.
