Our lighting comes from a design studio in Rajkot, Gujarat. It works on spaces, interiors, furniture and graphic design, and takes the same approach to all of them: natural materials, a minimal hand, and rounded, often spherical forms.
Shaped by nature
The studio describes its furniture as made "from natural materials". It uses "more wooden components" to give that natural feel, and the work is "robust, constructed with a minimal design approach", inspired, it says, "by the beauty of the natural world." It keeps a line from the American woodworker George Nakashima close:
It requires a genuine fight to produce one well designed object of relatively permanent value.
The lights
The lights show that approach most clearly: stacked and turned wooden forms with glowing glass globes.
- Aura Floor Lamp: a turned column with a glass globe at its top; the studio's best-known piece.
- Mizu Wall Light: a row of wooden spheres along a slim backplate, about 91 cm tall.
- Bodhi Table Lamp: two stacked wooden discs and a single globe, small enough for a bedside or a desk.
Some newer designs are shown as digital renders until photographs of the finished pieces are ready. Those pages say so above the images.
Before you order
Each piece is made to order in Rajkot. Listings show the dispatch time, materials and returns terms for that piece. Read them before you order: made-to-order work usually cannot be returned for a change of mind.
